Day 20 Still on Track
Well I have been so busy that I haven't had time to write a new entry for a week! However, it's Monday and I am back at the laptop....
I haven't fallen 'off the wagon' just in case you were wondering what kind of busy I have been! However, I did feel a big temptation to have a drink on Friday (my one and only time of the week that seems indoctrinated that I absolutely MUST have alcohol!). I think this is a hangover from my younger years when there was something wrong with me if I wasn't out partying on a Friday night. I went from those years to spending Fridays at a friend's house, usually armed with Brandy and then to drinking at home when the children were in bed. So, I guess upon reflection it is going to be the hardest night to change. Anyway, I soldiered on and I often find once I get past 8pm I am no longer bothered and the temptation has gone - at least for wine if nothing else!
It has really helped that my husband is off the alcohol too. Yet, he announced yesterday that he can't wait for Dry January to be over. I secretly thought (hoped!) he would go a bit longer as I'm worried that it will be tough(er) to do this alone. I guess I will have to cross that bridge when I get there...
Sundays are normally days when I do not drink, do not want a drink and look forward to an early night. However last night was different. We had a little bit of a family celebration as my stepson had his first TV acting role in a drama airing that night. We invited some close friends and I bought food and non-alcoholic wine and fizz as a treat. We all sat around the TV excited, but the weird thing was no one was drinking alcohol and no-one was that hungry. I had food left (and the AF wine) which never really happens. I know, that I personally only ate a small amount and didn't keep picking at the food like I would have if I'd been drinking wine. This morning I was very grateful that the wine had been alcohol free!
